Evotech - Building the workforce of the Future
9 Feb 2026
The building maintenance sector continues to face a well-documented skills shortage, driven by an ageing workforce, increasing demand for specialist services and a limited pipeline of new entrants. For organisations operating across critical environments, ensuring the right skills are in place, both now and in the future, is essential, and at Evotech, addressing this challenge is a strategic priority.
A significant proportion of highly skilled engineers across the industry are approaching retirement. With decades of experience, these time-served professionals hold invaluable technical knowledge that cannot be replaced overnight. Evotech recognises the importance of not only recruiting new talent, but also creating the right environment for skills transfer, allowing knowledge to be passed from experienced engineers to the next generation before it is lost.
Apprenticeships play a central role in Evotech’s approach. By investing in apprenticeships across the Group, Evotech is actively building a sustainable workforce for the future. Apprentices are given structured training alongside hands-on experience, working closely with experienced engineers who mentor and support their development. Over the years, the Group has supported numerous apprentices, many of whom have progressed into long-term, skilled roles within the business.
Beyond apprenticeships, Evotech is widening its recruitment approach to reach new talent pools. Regularly attending Cadet Career Fairs, enables the business to engage directly with young people who are exploring technical and engineering career paths. In addition, Evotech actively supports armed forces recruitment and has been acknowledged by the Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme with a Silver Award, recognising the strong transferable skills, discipline and technical aptitude that service leavers bring to the building maintenance sector.
By combining apprenticeships, early-career engagement and targeted recruitment, Evotech is taking a proactive approach to tackling the skills shortage. Crucially, this strategy ensures the right number of skilled engineers are in place whilst safeguarding the transfer of knowledge from experienced professionals to future generations, supporting long-term resilience, quality and growth across the Evotech Group.
